Cash

Accepted for all transactions at the Central Service Counter in Town Hall. Cash must be used to immediately clear any bills marked at the Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV) for nonrenewal.

Check

Accepted for all transactions. If a check is used to clear a bill marked at the RMV for nonrenewal, the registry release will be held for 15 days to insure the check is not returned. Checks returned unpaid are subject to a $25.00 fee per Massachusetts State Law Chapter 44, section 69, and Chapter 60, section 57a.

Money Order

Accepted as a cash transaction.

Direct Debit Program

The Town has a direct debit program allowing citizens to have bills paid on the due date by preauthorized deduction from a designated checking or savings account. Taxpayers continue to receive their bills informing them of the amounts due. On the due date, the payment is deducted from their assigned account and paid to the Town of Amherst.
