Conservation Commission Meetings

The Conservation Commission holds meetings on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday evening of each month with the exception of November and December, when they meet on the second Wednesday of the month only.  The meetings are held at Town Hall and begin at 7:00pm unless otherwise noted.

Agendas for upcoming Conservation Commission meetings and site visit schedules for upcoming wetland hearings are posted outside the Town Clerk’s office a minimum of 48 hours in advance. Agendas can also be found on the Conservation Commission's webpage. To be placed on the agenda for a wetlands hearing, please submit an application to the Conservation Department a minimum of two weeks prior to the scheduled hearing date.

Notice of Intent

The Town accepts the Massachusetts DEP WPA Form 3 - Notice of Intent form for both state and local filings. In cases where work falls under the jurisdiction of The Town of Amherst Wetlands Protection Bylaw, only the town’s portion of the state fee shall be submitted. Applications may be downloaded here or obtained from the Conservation Department office, located on the second floor of Town Hall.

Request for Determination

The Town accepts the Massachusetts DEP WPA Form 1 – Request for Determination of Applicability for both state and local filings. The filing fee is $50.00 for the first five acres or less, $5.00 for each additional acre or part. Applications may be downloaded here or obtained from the Conservation Department office, located on the second floor of Town Hall.

Abutter Notification

In all cases, it is the responsibility of the applicant of a wetlands permit to notify abutters. Please refer to the Town of Amherst Wetlands Protection Bylaw for specific instructions.  

 

Town of Amherst Wetlands Protection Bylaw and Regulations

The Town of Amherst Wetlands Protection Bylaw  and accompanying regulations are available in the Conservation Department for the price of $10.00. If you would like a copy mailed to you, please send a check to the Conservation Department with your request and include an additional $2.50 for postage and handling.
