If you are interested in getting involved in any Senior Center club
or support group, come to any meeting or call 259-3060 and ask how
to get in touch with the group. Be sure to check the latest edition of
The Senior Spirit
for current information on groups, meetings, and other activities.
Senior Center Club
This club carries out social activities such as luncheons, parties, art
exhibit openings, and special events. Call Nancy Pagano at 259-3060 to get
involved in the next event.
Craft Club
The Craft Club meets every Friday from 9am to noon in the South Meeting
Room, where they have space for storing many materials and supplies.
Come to enjoy knitting, sewing, and other handcrafts. Bring your own ideas
or learn a new skill from an experienced crafter. Many items are put up for
sale in the display case in front of the Senior Center lounge.
Travel Club
The Travel Club meets the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 1:30pm to plan
upcoming trips. Anyone may suggest destinations and excursions; the
travel club selects which ideas to sponsor and schedule in this
monthly meeting.
Most trips are bus or van excursions to places of
interest here in Massachusetts and New England. Something is happening
every month of the year! Summer features trips to beaches; fall trips
may include a train ride, a day in Boston, or a special musical show.
The Travel Club also meets every month to plan future trips abroad; see the
latest issue of
The Senior Spirit
for the next date and time. Recently, the club has sponsored trips to
Ireland and Italy at special rates for seniors.
Call 259-3060
for more information or drop by the Senior Center and check out the trip
sign-up board in the lounge.
Caregivers
Support Group
Amherst Senior Center’s Caregivers Support Group for primary
caregivers of elders meets each Wednesday, 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM. These
meetings provide caregivers with the opportunity to talk about
issues they are presently dealing with and receive support and ideas
from other caregivers in similar situations. The meetings are
facilitated by Dmitry Meyerson, a doctoral candidate in psychology
at UMass Amherst who has extensive experience working with elders
and their families. Registration for the group is required. Please
call Maura Plante, Social Worker, Amherst Senior Center, 259-3213 or
