AFD Emblem - Web ready.jpg  The Amherst Fire Department provides comprehensive fire, rescue, EMS, and fire prevention services to the Town of Amherst, including the University of Massachusetts, Amherst College, and Hampshire College, as well as providing EMS services to the neighboring communities of Hadley, Pelham, Leverett, and Shutesbury.

MISSION STATEMENT:
"To enhance the quality of life in our community by providing quality emergency and support services. Through the professionalism, pride, and excellence of our personnel, we will be the leaders in All Hazards preparation, response, and recovery. We will settle for nothing less than outstanding service as we conduct fire suppression, rescue and emergency medical services, fire prevention, safety education, hazardous materials incident response and disaster operations."

FIRE DEPARTMENT UPDATES:

OPEN AIR BURNING SEASON HAS CLOSED. 
State regulations limit open air burning to the period of January 15th through May 1st.  No outside fires are permitted during the rest of the year other than small, contained, cooking fires.
