 The Amherst Fire Department provides comprehensive fire, rescue, EMS, and fire prevention services to the Town of Amherst, including the University of Massachusetts, Amherst College, and Hampshire College, as well as providing the primary EMS service to the neighboring communities of Leverett, Pelham, and Shutesbury.
We also respond mutual aid for fire or EMS to any community in need in the three-county area (Hampshire, Franklin, Hampden Counties).

STUDENT FIREFIGHTER 70th ANNIVERSARY REUNION:

We are proud to be celebrating the 70th anniversary of our Student Volunteer Force!  As part of the UMass Homecoming (November 3 - 5, 2023) we will be celebrating the anniversary with special events specific to Student Force alumni.  For further information and a link to the UMass registration page click here.

Open air burning is allowed by State Regulations from January 15th through May 1st each year. For more information  please click here

SMOKE DETECTOR INSPECTIONS (26F)

Smoke detector 26F inspections must be scheduled and paid for in advance. The cost of the initial inspection is $50.  Inspections may be scheduled and paid for online please click here. The 26F inspections are normally completed on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 1 pm to 3pm. If you have additional questions or are unable to schedule online, please contact the Business Office: 413-259-3082
