The tree and grounds division has two main working groups, the tree crew and parks crew. The tree crew is responsible for the care and maintenance of the public shade trees which includes pruning, removing, and planting public shade trees. This crew also maintains and operates the cemeteries.
The parks crew is responsible for maintaining roughly 88 acres of town athletic fields, parks, commons and the regional school system's athletic fields. The crew is responsible for picking up trash receptacles and mowing intersections, road sides, and other public spaces. The parks crew also maintains the parking garage, 1 indoor pool in the Middle School, 2 outdoor seasonal pools, 3 wading pools, and 3 comfort stations.
The division is responsible for hanging banners downtown, setting out commemorative flags, and snow plowing 33 miles of sidewalk and the parking garage.
