Winter Parking

Amherst has implemented a storm and snow emergency parking ban.  When a storm or other weather emergency creates the need for Department of Public Works or Police Department to have roadways and town parking lots free of cars, a storm parking emergency will be announced on the town website, and by flashing blue lights at busy intersections.

During the declared emergency, parking is prohibited from midnight to 7:00 am on all town streets and in all parking lots, with 3 exceptions. Click here to sign-up for Winter Parking Notifications by text or email.

During this period of parking ban, overnight parking is allowed in
1. the lower level of the parking garage,
2. the town portion of the Pray Street Lot, and
3. in the town portion of the N. Pleasant St Lot
. (along the row adjacent to the Church only)

Otherwise, vehicles will be ticketed and towed nightly, at the owner's expense. Students are encouraged to leave cars in appropriate campus lots, following the University Snow Parking policy found at http://parking.umass.edu/index.php/generalinfo/snowpolicy/, and use buses to Town Center.
