The Conservation Department is responsible for the administration of environmental laws and policies, open space protection and management, water management, preservation of natural features of the environment, and coordination for joint action with many town bodies.
The Inspection Services Department is responsible for administering the General Laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and Town of Amherst bylaws as they relate to land use and the construction and occupancy of building and structures.
The Amherst Planning and Zoning Departments help to protect and enhance the environmental, economic and social quality of life in Amherst, for its residents and visitors, by creating and implementing appropriate planning initiatives and regulatory mechanisms for the preservation and protection of the Town.
