Cuppa' Joe with Amherst Town Manager & Special Guest Tony Maroulis

Friday, August 12, 2022

Join Amherst Town Manager Paul Bockelman and special guest Tony Maroulis, the Executive Director of Community & Strategic Initiatives at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, for an informal conversation. Bring your questions, ideas, concerns, all are welcome!

About Our Special Guest: Tony Maroulis

Tony Maroulis has been named executive director of community and strategic initiatives at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, effective Dec. 6.

A respected leader in regional economic development, tourism, and the arts, Maroulis returns to UMass from WD Cowls, where he was vice president of real estate and community development, where he worked for the past year. From 2008-14, he was director of the Amherst Area Chamber of Commerce before joining UMass where he served as executive director of external relations and university events.

“We’re thrilled to have Tony return to the campus community,” says Nancy Buffone, associate vice chancellor for University Relations. “Tony will focus on community relations work and a variety of special projects. He has a deep understanding of and appreciation for the issues facing the campus and the local communities. With his creativity, compassion and genuine interest in bringing town and gown closer, combined with the experience he gained during his time at WD Cowls, Tony is the right person for the job.”

Maroulis has served on numerous nonprofit boards and committees and is currently on the boards of Leadership Pioneer Valley, United Way of the Franklin and Hampshire Region, the Amherst Business Improvement District and the Downtown Amherst Foundation.

A Pelham resident, Maroulis lives with his wife Nora and son Mickey, 17. His daughter, Sofia, 21, is an art history major at UMass Amherst.
