Kwanzaa: A day of Community Celebration

Monday, December 26, 2022

Join the Human Rights Commission as we celebrate the first day of Kwanzaa UMOJA (UNITY). Kwanzaa derives from the Swahili phrase matunda ya Kwanzaa meaning “first fruits of the harvest”. Founded in 1966 by Dr. Maulana Karenga to honor family, culture, and community through celebration, reflection, affirmation and connection. Kwanzaa is a weeklong celebration starting on December 26th and ends on January 1st. Each day represents one of the seven principles. Join the HRC for a day of music, African dance and drumming, children's activities and Community! Lunch will be provided.

Habari Gani! "Wishing you a blessed Kwanzaa.”
