[ARCHIVED] Amherst is 280th Community in Massachusetts to Join the Community Compact Cabinet

CCC Polito News Item

Lt. Governor Karyn Polito was in Town Hall to sign Amherst's entry into the Community Compact Cabinet on Thursday afternoon. Signing on behalf of Amherst was Select Board Chair Alisa Brewer. This makes Amherst the 280th community in Massachusetts to join the program.

On February 7, 2017, Amherst applied for the Community Compact Cabinet (CCC) in two specific best practice areas:

1) create an economic development plan; and 2) implement the Complete Streets program.

The CCC is a state program in which municipalities enroll in up to three best practices in a variety of functional areas. It is a voluntary, mutual agreement entered into between the Baker-Polito Administration and individual cities and towns of the Commonwealth. Each community agrees to implement at least one, and up to three, best practices that they select from across a variety of areas. The community’s chosen best practice(s) were reviewed by the Commonwealth and on Thursday April 27, 2017 the written agreement was signed by both the municipality and the Commonwealth.

Communities participating in the CCC will, over a two year period, implement the best practice(s) they selected. Resources for technical assistance from the Commonwealth will be prioritized for participating communities seeking to implement their best practice(s). Communities are also awarded “bonus points” on various state grant applications and are eligible for additional grant programs including the Efficiency and Regionalization Grant Program and the Informational Technology Grant Program.
