Big Rig Day
100th Birthday Celebration for DPW Building
The Department of Public Works invites all to an Open House to celebrate the 100th birthday of the Amherst DPW building, which started out as the Holyoke Street Railway Company Building.
The celebration will coincide with the DPW Big Rig Day, which is always a big hit for kids!
The DPW building was built in 1917 to house the Holyoke Street Railway Company trolleys. In 1934, the Town bought the building “for the storage of road machinery and tools.”
Come tour the building and see the equipment the DPW uses today!
Folks (kids, both young and old) will be able to sit in some of the DPW equipment and see it up close! This is the perfect place to take those holiday photos of your child driving a Big Rig!
There will be birthday cake at 12:00 noon to celebrate this building’s long service to the community.
Where: 586 South Pleasant Street, Amherst MA.
When: September 23, 2017; 11:00 am to 1:00 pm
