Pellet Bag Recycling

On Saturday January 5, 12, 19, and 26 of 2019 the Amherst Department of Public Works is holding free, pellet bag drop-off events. Between the hours of 8am and 2pm, residents of Amherst, Pelham and Shutesbury will be allowed to bring used wood pellet bags to the Amherst Transfer Station at 740 Belchertown Road. Residents will not need to display a Transfer Station Sticker to participate.

Bags must be: Wood Pellet bags only- No other form of bag will be accepted.

Empty- Shake all pellets out of the bags or cut the bottoms out.

Dry- Wet bags will not be accepted.

Consolidated- Cut the tops off a few bags and stuff them full or stack bags on top of each other and tie with string.

All pellet bags collected at the event will then be transported to Gold Circuit E-Cycling in Palmer MA for recycling.

Amherst’s Recycling and Refuse Management Committee will be holding a similar event at the annual Sustainability Festival in April 2019. Any bags accumulated after the January event may be brought to the RRMC event in April with similar restrictions as above.
