Town Manager Paul Bockelman is delighted to announce the appointment of a key member to his senior management team. Evelyn Rivera-Riffenburg, SPHR, SHRM-SCP will assume the role of Human Resources Director and will succeed Deborah Radway, who is retiring. Ms. Rivera-Riffenburg was confirmed by the Town Council by unanimous vote at its meeting on January 7th.
Rivera-Riffenburg is currently the Director of Human Resources for the City of Chicopee and an adjunct Professor at Bay Path University in Longmeadow. She holds a Master’s Degree in Communications and Information Management and is a certified Human Resources professional. In addition to Chicopee, Rivera-Riffenburg has performed professional human resources management work in the higher education, medical, distribution, and manufacturing sectors in both union and non-union environments. She is a member of the Board of Directors of the Human Resources Management Association of Western New England, and is a resident of Holyoke.
The Human Resources Director screening committee was chaired by Assistant Town Manager David Ziomek and included Personnel Board member Rebecca Woodland, DPW Superintendent Guilford Mooring, Public Health Director Julie Federman, and Amherst College Chief Human Resources Officer Marie-Judith Rodriguez. Administrative support was provided by Libby Lass. The Committee received 26 applications and forwarded two finalists to the Town Manager.
Town Manager Bockelman said, “Evelyn brings broad experience in talent management, labor relations, employee engagement, training and development, and recruiting to the Town. I am confident that she is the right person to take on the challenges ahead such as negotiating multiple collective bargaining agreements and recruiting a talented, diverse workforce in a strong economy.” Bockelman concluded, “Human Resources and Human Rights Director Deborah Radway’s retirement is a significant loss for the Town and the community. I will miss her guidance and expertise. I am thrilled we were able to hire Evelyn. I’m confident she will excel in Amherst.” He added, “We had a talented field of applicants and I thank all who applied and went through the process. I especially want to thank the screening committee who worked quickly and efficiently in completing their assignment. They presented highly qualified finalists to me and offered invaluable insights, instincts and guidance to support my decision.”
