The vaccines to provide some protection to COVID-19 are coming, but not fast enough for any of us. The Town of Amherst will be an active player in distributing the vaccine. We understand there is eagerness among all populations, and especially seniors, to access the vaccine as soon as they are eligible.
We wanted to lay out the information we have at this time. We note that the information changes frequently and we will update the Town’s website as new information emerges.
First, the Town is subject to, and aligned with, the State Department of Public Health’s statewide plan for vaccination.
Second, the state is currently in Phase One of administration of the vaccine, to all eligible groups within Phase One.
Third, Seniors are eligible for the vaccine in Phase Two. At this time, Phase 2 opens for 75 and over on February 1st for vaccinations. Vaccination clinics are not scheduled until vaccine is received from the State. Due to limited state vaccine supply allocated from the Federal Government clinic scheduling is limited at this time. When we know the details of planned clinics, we will broadly communicate the information through the Town, the Senior Center, and other communication channels.
Vaccine also may be available from other clinics within the State, we encourage residents to review the Interactive Map for Massachusetts Vaccine sites here.
In the meantime, there is still a lot you can do to prepare and take care of yourself.
