The Town of Amherst is pleased to announce the launch of a new online engagement platform for community members called Engage Amherst. At a time when in-person meetings are still limited due to COVID-19, the Town of Amherst offers Engage Amherst as an additional way for members of the community to participate and offer feedback on important projects and initiatives taking place in Amherst.

The new platform, available at EngageAmherst.org, will feature current initiatives and projects and allow community members to weigh in, ask questions, and learn more about what is happening in town. The tool is easy to use and offers new ways for the town staff to consult with the community and collect information to share with Town decision-makers.

Traditional public engagement or community participation usually involves attending a public meeting or providing written submissions. This can often be time consuming, inconvenient, or sometimes intimidating. Engage Amherst gives community members the opportunity to have their say on issues that are important to them, at a time and place of their choice.

“Public input is a key part of decision-making in Amherst and bringing Engage Amherst online provides a venue to share information, listen to our community, and answer questions. This really takes public participation to the next level,” said Town Manager Paul Bockelman.

“We wanted to make sure our community members could provide feedback and ideas in ways that were most comfortable and convenient to them. Engage Amherst will serve as a vital tool in our process of hearing from more voices and making community-informed decisions,” said Communications Manager Brianna Sunryd on bringing this technology to Amherst.

Currently, the platform has active engagement opportunities for:

New projects will be brought on to the platform in the coming days and weeks.  Engage Amherst will not replace traditional outreach and public engagement, but rather add additional opportunities for public participation to take place.

Engage Amherst is powered by Bang the Table, a company that works at the intersection of the latest web technologies and best practice stakeholder engagement to deliver world-class interactive communications solutions.
