The Town is seeking one member to fill a vacancy on the Amherst Housing Authority Board of Commissioners.
The vacancy exists because the seat, reserved for an appointment by the Governor, has not been filled and the law permits the Town to fill the seat instead.
As background, the voters of the Town of Amherst elect three members of the Board, one seat is reserved for a resident, and one seat is designated for appointment by the Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. If the Governor does not appoint a member, the Town Manager is responsible for appointing a member. All members serve five-year terms.
The Housing Authority Board of Commissioners establishes policies regulating the operation of the Amherst Housing Authority. Regular Board meetings are currently being held on the third Monday of each month at 2:00 PM in the community room at Jean Elder Building in Amherst and also virtually.
The Housing Authority’s website provides links to documents that range from applications for the various housing programs; housing plans; the Section 8 Administrative Plan; the Federal 5 year plan; minutes from the Board of Commissioners meetings; Annual Reports; numerous agency policies and even opportunities for volunteering. The Town Manager seeks residents who have relevant expertise or experience. We are especially seeking individuals of diverse backgrounds to serve on all boards, committees, and commissions.
