The 2nd Annual Amherst Sustainability Festival is being held on Saturday, April 23rd from 10 AM - 4 PM. It will be a great day to learn how you can save money via energy efficiency in your home and/or business, learn about tree care, participate in a scavenger hunt, take in some entertainment and support local artisans by shopping at one of the 60+ vendor booths on the Common.
A solar powered stage, provided by Pioneer Valley Photovoltaics (PV squared), on the South Common will feature the talents of the Piti Theatre Company, Carrie Ferguson and other musical guests provided by WRSI, 93.9 The River. Other highlights include alternative energy vehicles and vendors of sustainable products and services.
The North Common will feature Arbor Day acitivities including tree climbing and tree pruning demonstrations, bucket lift rides and free Arbor Day seedlings.
The Spring Street Farmer’s Market will kick off their 2011 season between the North and South Common.
The scavenger hunt begins on Friday, April 22nd. Participants will have an opportunity to win gift certificates and prizes from Amherst restaurants and merchants.
The festival is sponsored by The Western Massachusetts Electric Company, the Berkshire Gas Energy Efficiency Program, The Amherst Energy Task Force, The Amherst Department of Public Works Solid Waste Division, The Amherst Public Shade Tree Committee and the Amherst Area Chamber of Commerce.
