Amherst School Committee Vacancy Will Be Filled Monday February
6, 2012 at Amherst Select Board Meeting; Statements of Interest Due by 4:00 pmThursday February 2, 2012


A vacancy on the Amherst School Committee will be filled on
Monday February 6, 2012, at a joint meeting of the
Select Board and the remaining members of the Amhersthref="">

Schoolstyle='font-size:10.0pt;color:#000099'> Committeestyle='font-size:10.0pt;color:#222222'>. This joint meeting will take place at6:45 pm during the regularly scheduled Select Board meeting in the second floor
Town Room of Amherst Town Hall, 4 Boltwood Avenue. The meeting will bebroadcast live by style='font-size:10.0pt;color:#000099'>Amherst Media on channel 17.


Vacancies in elected Town-wide office are governed by style='font-size:10.0pt;color:#000099'>MGLstyle='font-size:10.0pt;color:#000099'> style='font-size:10.0pt;color:#000099'>Chapterstyle='font-size:10.0pt;color:#000099'> 41 style='font-size:10.0pt;color:#000099'>Sectionstyle='font-size:10.0pt;color:#000099'> 11.  See also

required, and at least five positive votes must be made for the selectedindividual, regardless of how many members of the Select Board and Amherst
School Committee are present.


The selected individual may be sworn in at Amherst Town Hallduring business hours on Tuesday February 7, 2012 and will serve only through
Annualhref=""> style='font-size:10.0pt;color:#000099'>Town Electionstyle='font-size:10.0pt;color:#222222'> on Tuesday April 3, 2012.  If the selected individual also wants
to be on the ballot for a three-year term, s/he must follow the same process asany other candidate for Town-wide office, including the filing of official
nomination papers with the signatures of at least fifty registered voters ofAmherst with the Town Clerk’s office by 5:00 pm on Wednesday February 14, 2012.


Thenew Amherst School Committee member also serves on the Amherst-Pelham Regional
School Committee. Check the schools’ website for already scheduled meetings ofthe
style='font-size:10.0pt;line-height:115%;color:#000099'>Amherst and href="">Amhersthref="">-href="">Pelhamhref=""> href="">Regionalhref=""> href="">Schoolhref=""> href="">Committees. Depending on schedules and interest,it may be important for the new Amherst School Committee member to also serve
as one of two Amherst School Committee members on either the Town of Amherst
Joint Capital Planning Committee (JCPC) or the Town of Amherst href="">Budgethref=""> href="">Coordinatinghref=""> href="">Group (BCG). Those two bodies generally meet duringmorning business hours throughout the budget season.

experience, and reasons for interest in serving on the Amherst SchoolCommittee.  Statements can be
submitted either by email or in hard copy, and will be provided to all Select Boardmembers and the remaining Amherst School Committee members as they are
